"The
Great Aurora of 1991"
November
8
Albany,
Missouri: 40 degrees North Latitude
"A most remarkable aurora here in Missouri. It was my first one and the event lasted for hours. The visible movement and "strobing" of this aurora was very evident. The weather was extremely cold and as you can see there was snow on the ground. It was strange seeing such an awesome event in almost absolute silence. This event made it into all of the papers. I was so very lucky to already have my camera already loaded with what was then a great high speed film called Ektar 1000. By today's standards this film is very grainy but back then it did the job."
